This publication is based on the ten surviving letter-books of W.Gilbertson & Co. of Pontardawe, which cover four decades of technical development, home and foreign trade, an increasingly organised labour force and a world war with its debilitating aftermath.

Edited by Peter Jackson and published in 2001 jointly by the Archive Service and the South Wales Record Society, this book is also a commentary on a family which dominated the life of this Swansea Valley community for many decades.
