Description

Captured at Sea: Merchant ships captured in the south west seas of Britain in the time of Napoleon 1803-1815, by Colin R. Rees and Professor Peter Clark, tells the stories of British merchant ships who were captured by Napoleonic forces during the wars. Their research has revealed first-hand records, written by some of those captured sailors, with details of their journeys, capture, and imprisonment, alongside newspaper accounts of these ships and their fates.  They have also researched the French prisons that held the sailors, and how they lived while incarcerated.

A detailed and fascinating book that gives highlights a less known part of the Napoleonic Wars and their effect on British ships and sailors.

C.R. Rees & Prof. P. Clark, 2011.  Paperback, 155 pages, both black and white & colour illustrations.  Book shows slight dents to edges of front and back cover, but otherwise in very good condition.

Please note, this book is second hand.
